Sectoral Committee Commends Road Works
The Works,Natural resources and Production committee has monitored and commended the road works of financial year 2019/2020. The monitoring which took place on Thursday March 5, 2020 followed allegations raised by the community to the sectoral committee chairperson Fred Zziwa that the work done on some roads was shody.
The monitoring exercise was done by impromptu sampling of the 12 KM Kigumba-Mpumwe road which had been recently maintained and the 8 KM Bweyale-Diika road which was under construction.
According to Fred ZZiwa the chairperson of the committee, the road works were found to be good and there were no evidence of shody work as opposed to earlier allegations by the community. “The roads are well shaped and the width is standard. However, there is need for more off shoots to ensure drainage of the road and reduce the rate of depreciation.”said Fred Zziwa.
George Baguma a member of the committee commended the efforts of the works and engineering department Kiryandongo for the good work done on the roads but noted that there was need for more compacting of the murram. He also urged the roads sector to always dump murram on the road sides near black spots for the community to use when refilling the damaged spots.
Baguma also noted the need for town councils within Kiryandongo district to work on the road stretches within their territories to avoid draining the resources allocated for district roads. “Town councils are cheating the district. They should be compelled to work on the stretches of district roads within the their territories since they receive much funding.”said Baguma.
